How to Live Your Best Life as a Vata

splendid yoga vata

Welcome, Vata!

You are ready to live your best life in 2021 complementary to your dosha and I’ve got everything you need to make it happen.

For those of you thinking, “what the heck is a dosha?,” you need to check out my blog Year-End Review for Vatas, Pittas, & Kaphas for an outline of the Ayurveda doshas. Plus, use this Chopra dosha quiz to identify which dosha you are most aligned with.

When you live your life according to your dosha you can expect to flourish in more ways than one. You can find doshas in everything: people, animals, food, colors, activities. For real, everything.

My dear Vata, I’ve compiled the most optimal exercises, foods, colors, and meditations to help align your inner energetic forces of nature. Pro tip: You’re definitely going to want to save this blog to refer back to all year long!

Exercise

The Energizer Bunny ain’t got nothing on you, Vata! That’s why when it comes to exercise it’s no surprise that you want to run, jump, and hop around. BUT, those types of exercises are actually not the most suitable for your dosha. You benefit most by engaging in physical activity that keeps both of your feet on the ground like walking, yoga, and strength & flexibility training.

As a Vata, you have a hard build and your joints aren’t as padded. Doing the running and jumping you want will be too tough on your body. Plus, those high-intensity exercises can get your mind racing, cause fogginess, and even create digestive issues.

Solitary exercises to try: Core stability, squats, reverse squats, and lunges

Food

You frequently utter the phrase, “I’m SO cold!,” which makes warm and hot foods perfect for you, Vata. You need nourishing foods that are cooked, soft or mushy, high in fat and protein, and generously spiced to make your tastebuds swoon.

Eat More:

  • Warm Soups

  • Stews

  • Nut Butter

  • Freshly Baked Bread

  • Asparagus

  • Sweet Potatoes

  • Garlic

  • Carrots

  • Well-ripened Sweet Fruits

Eat Less:

  • Salads

  • Raw Veggies

  • Iced Drinks

  • Candy

  • Unripe Fruit

  • Excessive Caffeine

Colors

In Ayurveda, colors are believed to have a healing element that promotes wellness. Light blue is associated with Vata but many other colors can be soothing to your dosha.

Incorporate more warming reds, oranges, and pastels into your life. Try to avoid vibrant, stimulating hot colors, darker and cooler blacks, browns, and blues.

Meditation

Mantra meditation is ideal for you, Vata. When your dosha becomes unbalanced it can cause you anxiety, worry, fear, and restlessness. Repeating a word or phrase is the basis of the mantra meditation and is an excellent way to help release your mind.

Try one of these mantra meditations:

Muladhara Chant

4 Minute Guided Mantra Meditation

OM Mantra Meditation

Remember, Vata: These aren’t fast and hard rules to live by. Some of these may not work for you, and that’s perfectly fine! Be mindful of these suggestions and incorporate them into your life where you see fit. No need to rush and change everything tomorrow.

Namaste. 💛
