Why You're Not Making Enough Money As A Yoga Teacher
If I’m being honest, the only thing I’m really good at is teaching yoga.
I’ve studied it for almost 2 decades and taught for half that, and I’m a great yoga teacher.
Literally every class I’ve taught for the last several years, a student has told me it’s their favorite yoga class they’ve ever taken.
That’s because I really, really love it.
But I couldn’t make enough money teaching yoga.
So I hired a coach to figure out what my block was.
Here’s what I learned:
People don’t value yoga.
It’s true!
I noticed it in myself: I seriously side eye any yoga class that costs more than $20.
I’d considered hiring a private yoga teacher for $50, and even that felt too expensive.
It’s not that I didn’t have the money.
It’s not that I didn’t value the experience.
It’s that I didn’t think I would get enough value for it.
✨✨✨I didn’t know the value of what I was buying ✨✨✨
But at the same time... I wanted my clients to pay me more than $20 a class.
I wanted to be paid $500 a class.
Per student.
I wanted $1000 days and $10,000 weekends.
I wanted it so I could pay for the $10,000 teacher trainings in Bali and Nicaragua that would make me a better teacher.
I have that now.
Last week, I made over $7,000.
I didn’t make it teaching yoga.
But I used all the skills I learned as a yoga teacher, and as an entrepreneur, and as a woman, and as a friend, and I packaged that into a business that people do value.
I’m still teaching yoga.
Because there is nothing yoga isn’t.
