How to Build an Online Course

So you want to build an online course! 🎉

You’ve got something you’re good at, something you’re passionate about, and you want to teach other people how to do it.

SWEET!

I have some questions for you.

First of all, have you sold it yet?

Or are you building a course that you’re pretty sure people will like and need and want?

Oh, my sweet star baby angel, please, I beg of you:

SELL IT BEFORE YOU BUILD IT.

Seriously.

So how do you do that?

Market research!! Yay!

Here’s a very basic way to get started building an online course:

  • Pick out a few friends in your network who you KNOW would benefit from the course you’ve been thinking about building.

  • Ask them for 20 minutes of their time and explain what you want to create

  • Get their thoughts (I walk you through EXACTLY how to do this in the Money Manifestation Academy!)

  • Write down key phrases that THEY use to explain how the course would benefit them

  • If they’re into it and excited about it, sell it to them!

    • Pick a date

    • Pick a price

    • Have them PayPal or Venmo you

    • Get their email address and phone number and remind them via email and text the day before and the day of of the Zoom link

If you can sell it to one person, you can sell it to 10.

Boom 💥 You’ve just sold out your first course!

It literally does not matter what you want to teach. People are willing and wanting to learn anything!

If you’re passionate enough about it to want to teach it, there are people who will pay for it. It’s just a matter of finding them.

Now, that’s the quickest way to get this up and running, and it’ll give you proof of concept:

Your idea was good enough that you convinced people to pay you for it, and you enjoyed it enough that you would do it again.

Now it’s time to automate.

That’s what I teach my 1:1 clients how to do, because everyone is different in terms of an automation system that will actually bring pleasure to the process.

But here are the very basics of how to automate this whole process so that it’s 100% purely passive income:

  • You’re going to create a landing page where people can sign up and pay you (I use Kajabi linked to my PayPal and Stripe accounts, or Acuity linked to my Stripe account)

  • You’ll grant them access to the recording of the video you taught live to the first round of students once they’ve paid (unless you want to keep hosting it live! That’s fun! But not 100% passive)

That’s it! Pass the link out to all your friends and neighbors!

If people are really loving it and want their friends to take it too, you can set up an affiliate system where you pay a percentage or flat rate for any students they send your way! Kajabi makes this really easy, and it’s an easy way to explode your network.

And if your SEO is on point, people will start finding you just by searching for exactly what you have to offer!

So that’s the very basics of how to build (and sell) an online course.
