Why It’s NOT Rude To Discuss Your Salary

When it comes to working we’ve all been told the same thing: DON’T discuss your salary!

But why not?

Most commonly we’re told:

  1. It’s rude

  2. It strikes a nerve

Let’s dissect the first point, “it’s rude.” Why is discussing your salary with your coworkers such a faux pas? It almost seems like this social rule exists to benefit the guys in suits on top.

Hmmm….

That’s because that’s exactly what they want! When bosses know you’re not talking about how much money you’re bringing in there’s even more control over your salary. Unfortunately, many companies operate that way.

Point #2 “it strikes a nerve.” Money is a taboo topic for some. It’s tied to a myriad of emotions and feelings. People feel stressed and inferior when they know they aren’t making as much as their friends or coworkers.

BUT when there is transparency people are paid what they’re worth. That’s why it should be a social norm to discuss salaries in the workplace. It’s only rude because big brother says it’s rude.

Capitalism, am I right?

Y’all, I can’t tell you how ELATED I am that I don’t have to deal with that crap anymore. See, I got laid off 4 years ago from my average at a best corporate job and I’ve never looked back.

I used to feel like work was a ball and chain, constantly preventing me from letting me live the life I wanted.

Now,

💛 I make the money I want

💛 I live life on my own terms

💛 I don’t let anyone tell me what to do

💛 I live wherever I want

💛 I buy whatever I want

Because I can! Because the corporate world was sucking the life out of me. Now I’m energized working for myself.

Do you feel this way too? Would you escape the daily grind if you could in a heartbeat?
