How to Veganize Any Recipe

Did you know that when baking, flaxseeds can act as an egg replacement? Or that a blended mixture of cashews can turn into ooey-gooey pullable mozzarella? It may sound far-fetched but it’s true! You can veganize just about any recipe with some plant-powered innovation.

I LOVE to cook! After spending hours on Pinterest, I was so relieved to find out that there are a ton of replacements out there for recipes that call for animal products.

These vegan cooking swaps are as easy as replacing one ingredient or leaving the non-vegan ingredient out altogether! Here’s how I veganize all my favorite recipes:

Eggs

When it comes to eggs, you’ve got your pick! Instead of using eggs in your next recipe, try:

  • Applesauce

  • Flaxseed

  • Aquafaba

  • Black salt

  • Ripe bananas

  • Tofu

  • Chickpea flour

  • JUST Egg

  • Tumeric

Meat

Make the recipe without meat. Seriously. Just leave it out.

Tacos? Fry the onions, beans, rice, and potatoes with cumin, smoked paprika, and cayenne.

Casserole? Combine additional vegetables to bulk it up.

Soup? It’ll be just as flavorful without the flesh and bones.

If you need more bulk, substitute any green vegetable (I'm obsessed with bok choy right now).

I don’t eat “fake” meat products because soy makes me fart too much, but if you want a protein boost or are worried about a texture issue, just add boiled black or green lentils.

Dairy

There is a multitude of animal milk alternatives out there.

I make my own all-purpose dairy with raw cashews sprouted and blended. You can use literally any nut or seed.

Want the tang of yogurt or sour cream? Add a probiotic pill.

Want the consistency of 2% milk? Add more water (just like they do at dairy farms!)

Want some flavor ideas?

Sweet: vanilla beans and maple syrup or dates

Savory: turmeric, ginger, and black pepper

No need to reinvent the wheel, friends! You can enjoy all your favorite foods with kindness instead of, you know, murder and abject fear.
