30 days of self care splendid yoga

Day 30

Um…it’s the our last day.

Whaaat?

What’s changed in your life?

What’s gotten easier?

What’s gotten harder?

A lot’s changed in my life.

But I’m going to tell you a simple story that happened this evening.

There was an active shooter on my campus.

I rode my bike into campus, walked to class, saw no one was there.

I’d seen the cop cars and the helicopters on my ride in.

No one stopped me.

No one was around.

I checked the news - sure enough, active shooter in the area. They had shut down the campus, which I realized as I was unlocking my bike and someone was yelling toward me that they had shut down the campus.

I rode home.

It was a beautiful ride: the ocean, the sunset.

I considered what I would have done if I’d seen an active shooter.

It’s happened to me before.

I was robbed at gunpoint (twice!) when I worked at a bank in Seattle.

I did what I was trained to do.

That’s what I think I would have done in this situation: what I trained myself to do.

With meditation, with yoga, with a variety of self-care rituals that include sweating, eating healthfully, journalling, resting, tidying, etc, I’ve trained myself

  • To respond with the compassion

  • To gather the strength I need when those around me need it the most

  • To proceed with kindness first

And that was my instinct on my ride home.

Whatever this person’s story was, they are going to have a rough night.

I wanted to ease their suffering.

I sent a prayer out, that they find clarity and strength on their path.

And I hope you do, too, my sweet friend.

Thanks for joining me for this ride.

Hooray! Let’s find clarity and strength on OUR paths!

Sweet! Let’s roll out our butts (hee!)

Glorious! Let's write about what changed for you this month.

 Keep in touch, y’all!
