March’s theme is KNEES.

Knee pain is ridiculously common - for yoga teacher and yoga students alike. Between the inherent instability of the joint, the common injuries with crazy long rehabs, and overall muscle strength imbalance, I see a lot of this in the yoga studio when, say, I ask my students to go into malasana: 😬 We’ll talk about how you, as a yoga teacher, can help turn that 😬 into 😊

We’ll give you a rundown of some of the crucial anatomical landmarks, how to discuss the human body like you know what you’re talking about, and we’ll use that knowledge to learn and experience those super juicy adjustments that will make all your students fall in love with you…and how to convert those students into private clients that you can truly serve and help you build a sustainable career as a yoga teacher.

Yes please!

For the first workshop, we discussed the rotator cuff muscles (SITS - can you name them??*) and how to dig into them while your student is seated, how palpating the brachioradialis will relieve chronic wrist pain, the iliopsoas and how to palpate the transverse processes of the spine, and how to release the iliotibial band. We’ll have video up on the web site soon if you missed it.

Get curious about your body!

When something hurts, locate which muscle or tendon or bones are involved. Use your anatomy book, or google it! Find the origin and insertion points and palpate for tenderness. The more you understand your body in anatomical language, the easier it will be to use with your students.
