Let’s fall in love just a little bit!
This is a practice inspired by Hozier.
Not hoosiers.
I was riding my bike a few years ago, crying after a breakup.
I heard this lyric and cried harder:
“I fall in love just a little, oh, little bit every day with someone new.”
Because the dude I was dating is polyamorous!
And I’m monogamous!
Oh dear.
I had all this love in my heart for this man, who would eventually become one of my best friends, and I didn’t know what to do with it while we were figuring how what kind of relationship to have after a romantic relationship didn’t work.
So I fell in love with everyone I rode past on my bike.
The joggers.
The transients.
The tourists.
I gave them a little seed of the love I felt for this man.
And I started to feel whole again.
I started to realize that the love I felt, it wasn’t something that this dude gave me.
It was something he shone a light on.
It was all me all along.
That’s what I want you to do.
Whoever you pass by today, fall in love with them.
Give them the same level of love you’ve given the greatest loves of your life.
Spread it around.
You have enough to give.
Imagine shooting an arrow from your heart to theirs.
Know that they have known your pain.
Send them your love for knowing your pain.
We’re all in it together, friends.
Fall in love, just a little bit, every day with someone new.
Let that new person be yourself.
